Learn during your holidays!
Travel back in time by visiting the Museum of Old Trades, located in the historic heart of Rochefort, which holds the prestigious “Towns and Lands of Art and History” label.
Discover a recreation of shops and trades from yesteryear. This 4-story museum features no less than 20 different shops staged as they were back then, from a bistro to a hair salon or even a photographer’s studio! Young and old alike, enjoy a self-guided or guided tour of at least 1 hour.
During your visit, in the grocery store section, you’ll find many iconic brands that still sell their products today, such as Banania, Maggi, and Paic. For the younger ones, you’ll discover several brands that no longer exist but may have accompanied your parents or grandparents during their youth. By visiting the hat shop, (re)discover hats, gloves, and other accessories dating from the 20th century. Then, passing through the pharmacy, you can see the various products that were sold there. Fancy a new haircut? Stop by the hair salon, fully recreated as it was back then. Next, head to the tea room, a place to have a good time with friends and catch up on the latest news. Also, take a look at the newsstand, which has old newspapers, some of which still exist, such as Le Petit Parisien, La Gazette de France, and others. Many more recreations are waiting to be discovered!

If you feel like going back to school, during the summer holidays, from July to August, dictation sessions are held starting at 2:30 PM. Are you ready to write with a quill and purple ink? Remember to adjust your camera settings.
Indeed, flash photography is prohibited. Be sure to regularly check your photos to best adjust your camera according to the lighting, as it can change depending on your position in the museum.
“Having visited it with my photo club, adjusting the settings wasn’t easy, but we left with beautiful photos and fond memories of this visit.”
