Oléron Island is a swimmer’s paradise. Around thirty beaches, with sandy or rocky shores, await you! The eastern side, facing the Pertuis d’Antioche strait, offers sheltered and family-friendly beaches. To the west, the wild coast is popular with surfers for its beautiful waves and Atlantic spray.

In the South, from Gatseau to Vert-Bois
The southern tip of Oléron Island is bordered by the Saint-Trojan pine forest. It offers a vast stretch of fine sand from Pointe de Gatseau to Vert-Bois.
Gatseau Beach
Facing inland towards the Pertuis de Maumusson, opposite Ronce-les-Bains, Gatseau Beach is sheltered from the ocean. It’s a wild spot protected by the pine forest. Quiet and calm, it’s ideal for children.
Saint-Trojan Grand Beach
This long sandy beach faces the Atlantic Ocean. It can be accessed via a path through the forest at the entrance to Saint-Trojan-les-Bains. Its vast expanse allows for sand yachting at low tide. It’s a popular beach for wave enthusiasts and surfers.
The beaches of Giraudière and Vert-Bois
Very popular in summer, Grand-Village beach promises an unforgettable memory of your seaside holiday. Three kilometers of golden sand and invigorating, sometimes impressive waves offer an oceanic space open to the Atlantic. It can be accessed on foot or by a small train from the village entrance. The beach continues to Les Allassins in Vert-Bois, a surf spot and a favorite place for nature lovers.
The Beaches of the Saumonards Forest
To the east of Oléron Island, discover the beaches bordered by the Saumonards forest in the municipality of Saint-Georges d’Oléron. They face the Pertuis d’Antioche, a strait that separates Oléron Island from Ré Island.
Boyardville Beach
Boyardville Beach offers a remarkable view of Fort Boyard. Sheltered from waves and swell, it’s an ideal beach for swimming with young children. It has the advantage of being very close to Boyardville port, a lively spot in season with its many cafes, ice cream parlors, and restaurants. It’s also the boarding point for cruise boats to Fort Boyard and Aix Island.
Plaisance Beach
Further north, Plaisance Beach near Douhet port is very pleasant. The water color is often very clear, almost reminiscent of the Caribbean, but without the tropical temperatures! It faces Ré Island and has the advantage of being swimmable at all tides. Around the small marina, Les Écluses crêperie, established for several generations in a charming white house with green shutters, is a must-visit spot for afternoon snacks or for the island’s night owls.
The Island’s Northern Beaches
Discover the beaches of Saint-Denis-d’Oléron, from Les Seulières in the west to the small Boirie beach near the marina.
Les Huttes and Les Seulières
A renowned surf spot, Les Huttes beach faces the Atlantic southwest of Pointe de Chassiron. Here, all watersports reign supreme: surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and bodyboarding… Les Seulières beach extends Les Huttes beach to the south. In turn, it offers a body of water suitable for watersports and invigorating sea baths.
Boirie Beach
With its pretty colorful beach huts lined up along the upper shore, the small Boirie beach is instantly recognizable! This picturesque and family-friendly beach is ideal for young children. Next to the marina and sailing school, it offers holidaymakers a prime location with supervised swimming.
