Located at the very end of Île de Ré, after passing Le Groin, beautiful wild beaches stretch across the entire northern tip of the island. A large stretch of sand on the south coast offers a family-friendly swimming area near the campsites.

Île de Ré Beach

The Beaches of Northern Île De Ré

About ten beaches are spread along the crescent shape formed by the island’s extreme tip, from Les Portes-en-Ré to Saint-Clément-les-Baleines. They are bordered by the Lizay and Trousse-Chemise forests.

Patache Beach
Facing the interior of the Fier d’Ars, Patache Beach is well worth the effort if you access it by bike from the marsh road. The view of the Fier is magnificent, and the few boats at anchor complete the postcard scene. Sheltered from swell and prevailing winds, Patache Beach is a little slice of paradise, away from the crowds.

Trousse-Chemise Beach
Backed by the Trousse-Chemise forest, the beach of the same name faces the Banc du Bûcheron: a sandbank that appears at low tide. This beautiful white sand beach with clear water is highly appreciated for its wild and natural environment. It’s an ideal beach for picnicking and swimming with young children.

Lizay and Petit-Bec Beaches
Access to Lizay and Petit-Bec beaches is via the Lizay forest, passing through the hamlet of La Rivière, where the top of the dune is dominated by a landmark. Popular with surfers, Petit-Bec beach is exposed to the swell; it faces the Atlantic Ocean. These two neighboring beaches are magnificent, with transparent sea water sometimes displaying turquoise hues.

Conche des Baleines Beach
This immense fine sand beach stretches from the Phare des Baleines to Les Portes-en-Ré. It is bordered by the Lizay forest. It is easily accessible via the bike path that runs along the beautiful pine forest.

The Beaches of Southern Île De Ré

The sandy stretches on the south of the island, from Sainte-Marie-de-Ré to La Couarde-sur-Mer, offer holidaymakers an ideal playground to combine swimming with the enjoyment of water sports. Easier to access, the beaches of southern Île de Ré are also the most frequented. However, they have the immense advantage of being located right next to the many campsites on Île de Ré.

Peu Ragot Beach
Peu Ragot Beach is La Couarde’s only supervised beach. It is equipped with a nautical center and a beach club for children. It’s a very pleasant sandy beach facing Île d’Oléron. You can enjoy kite flying, sailing, and surfing here.

Gros Jonc Beach
Located in Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, Gros Jonc Beach is a large and long fine sand beach, facing the Pertuis d’Antioche and Île d’Oléron. It has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag label for the quality of its waters. Supervised in July and August, it’s a family beach where the sea is calm.

Rivedoux Beach
As soon as you cross the bridge, the first beaches are in Rivedoux, to the north and south of the village. The south beach has the advantage of always being accessible for swimming, whether at high or low tide. The beach club offers a wide range of water activities for children aged 5 to 11.
