Petanque is an Institution!
A holiday game for some, a true institution for others, petanque has one undeniable asset: bringing people together for a moment of sharing and conviviality. Often associated with holidays and the South of France, where it is said to originate, this boules game, derived from the Provençal game, boasts over 600,000 registered players worldwide and has always been a part of camping! It’s a chance for you to discover or rediscover this pastime that holidaymakers love so much.
Simple Equipment, but Precise Rules…
The equipment remains relatively simple but meets specific size and weight requirements: indeed, the boules are generally made of metal and have a diameter between 70.5 and 80 mm. Their weight varies between 650 and 800 grams. There are ranges designed for children, either in plastic or wood. The jack, a small wooden ball, also called a “but” or “bouchon,” has a diameter of 30 mm.
Each player has 2 to 3 boules depending on the number of participants. In turn, players must throw their boules without a run-up, onto the playing area and with their feet together, from a circle drawn on the ground. The game ends when one of the players or teams reaches 13 points.
